UN Special Rapporteur Raises Concern Over Proposed Dissolution of NFDIN in Nepal

I am concerned by the reported proposal by the Government of Nepal to dissolve the National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities (NFDIN), a move that threatens to erode the very mechanisms designed to protect the rights of over 10.2 million people.
As the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, I must remind the international community and the Government of Nepal that institutions like NFDIN are not optional bureaucratic layers; they are the functional heart of self-determination and social justice.
Nepal has a proud history of leadership, being the first country in Asia to ratify ILO Convention No. 169, leading the way in ensuring that the voices of more than 250 million Indigenous Peoples in Asia are heard. Read more
